Volunteers, through their generous donation of time and effort, provide opportunity for young people to engage in sport and physical activity programs. Engagement in these programs creates potential for young people to develop their physical, mental, and personal capacities.

There are currently 400,000 volunteers working in sport and physical activity programmes in Ireland, yet very little is known about the Irish Volunteer and how best to support them. In response to this the Irish Sports Council has commissioned research to investigate the motivations, capacities, needs and resources of volunteers involved in delivering sports and physical activity programs to children between 4 and 18 years.

If you are a volunteer working with 4-18 year olds the ISC would be very interested in your thoughts about the volunteering process. The online survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. All completed surveys are entered into a prize draw for one of three vouchers for Champion Sports worth €100.

Volunteers are essential to the delivery of sports and recreation services for children and youth. Clubs and sport organisations depend on the volunteer workforce to deliver a range of programmes at an affordable price to a broad spectrum of the community. The Irish Sports Council has commissioned research to better understand the needs, capacities and motivations of the volunteer workforce. Sports clubs and organisations work closely with the volunteer workforce, as major stakeholders, the Irish Sports Council is interested in your views on how best to manage, recruit and retain volunteers.

Are you in a position to represent your club's view on the volunteer workforce? If you are the president, chairperson, or an administrator working at the club and have access to information about participant numbers, club facilities, and the volunteer workforce we would appreciate your participation in this online questionnaire. If you are not in a position to represent your club with this information, you can make the relevant personnel aware of it so that your club will still be in with a chance to win this fantastic prize

The questionnaire takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. All people who fully complete the questionnaire are eligible to participate in a draw for two nights' accommodation for 20 people at the Breaffy International Sports Hotel Co. Mayo.
