This statistical release by the Central Statistics Office was based on the largest ever survey of participation in sport and physical activity in Ireland. The survey of over 40,000 people aged 15 and over was conducted in Autumn 2006. The release includes tables dealing with overall participation levels in sport and physical activity broken down by gender, age, region, education attainment, economic status, etc., reasons for inactivity, main sports participated in, FIT (frequency, intensity and time involved in participation) and motivations for being active.
