Pritchard Announces 18 For Investec London Cup

18 May 2012

Denis Pritchard, the National Women's Interim Hockey Coach, has today announced a squad of 18 who will compete in the Investec London Cup which takes place from June 5th - June 10th.

Ireland will compete against some of the world's top nations when they face The Netherlands and Australia in Pool A, while Pool B pits Germany, South Africa and Great Britain together all of whom are preparing for the London 2012 Olympics.

Commenting on the impending tournament Pritchard said "This event presents us with an unique occasion to play with freedom, to test ourselves against some of the best teams in the world and to give valuable pitch time to some less experienced players. Using well measured performance criteria we can enter every game with a focus for improvement. It's going to very tough going but we will relish the challenge and embrace the opportunity."

High Performance Director Dave Passmore recognised that while this was a challenge it was also an exciting opportunity "This will be a challenging tournament for the team but at the same time provide the squad a basis from which to come back together and move forward towards the Champions Challenge I in September. Several less experienced players have been afforded the opportunity to test themselves against the world's best teams preparing for an Olympics"
