PITCH AND PUTT National Matchplay Championships
The Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland stage the Finals of the Ladies and Gents National Matchplay Championships this weekend in the Glenville Club Tallaght Dublin 24.
Glenville is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and this is the 48th staging of the National Finals under the guise of the PPUI.
Thirty two of the top ladies and sixty four of the top gents will contest the finals. Both the Ladies and Gents holders are bidding for three-in-a-row, Geraldine Ward (Portmarnock) and Ray Murphy (Templebreedy) are also the number one ranked players in the country.
Ray Murphy will be first on the tee at 10.00 on Saturday morning playing Peter Dolan (Athboy). Other top players to watch out for are: David Poole (Portmarnock), William Buckley Jnr.(Erry), Sean Downes (Stackallen, and Eddie Carey (Athgarvan) who is in hot form at the moment winning the Leinster and Kildare Strokeplay Championships in the last two weeks,
The Ladies kick off at 12.30 with Geraldine Ward pitted against Tara Dillon (St. Bridget’s). Other top players include Sheelagh Elmes (Portmarnock), Margaret Hogan (Tullamore), Tracey McGrath (Erry), Marian Byrne (St. Bridget’s) and her sister Chrissie who is the number two ranked Lady in the country.
