Paralympics Ireland encourages Irish fans to move quickly to avoid disappointment

Irish sports fans looking to attend next summers Paralympic Games in London have until Monday 26th September to apply for tickets. 1 million people pre-registered their interest in attending the Paralympic Games prior to the ticket application process opening on the 9th September. With just three full days to remaining to apply for tickets, Paralympics Ireland are encouraging Irish fans to move quickly to avoid disappointment. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has indicated that ticket applications for the London 2012 Paralympic Games has received a huge uptake, with some evening sessions in swimming and track cycling already over subscribed.


The Paralympic Games which takes place between 29th August and 9th September 2012, will feature four Irish world champions including 800m and 1500m middle distance runner Michael McKillop, discuss and club thrower Catherine O'Neill and World Paracycling champions Mark Rohan and Colin Lynch, as well as Olympic hopeful Jason Smyth who will be back to defend his 100m and 200m titles. Liam Harbison, CEO of Paralympics Ireland and Chef de Mission for the Irish Team said, "London promises to be a great occasion for Irish sport. We are going to London with our strongest team ever so I would encourage Irish sports fans to apply for tickets over the next few days and get behind this fantastic team." Ticket Information

Prices start at €11.50 (UKStg£10.00) for adults and €5.75 (UKStg£5.00) for those 16 and under and over 60.* Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies start at €23.15 (UKStg£20.12), with the top tier ticket price for the Opening Ceremony on sale at €575 (UKStg£500) for the Opening Ceremony. A London Travelcard is included within the price of a ticket for the day of the event. More than 50% of tickets are priced at €11.50 or less - with €11.50 being the lowest adult price. More than 95% of the tickets are priced at €57.50 (UKStg£50) or under, with 75% of tickets priced at €23.00 (UKStg£20) or less. Different types of tickets will be available for the Paralympic Games. Some sessions are reserved seating and others have general admission, which means spectators will choose their seat on arrival at the venue on a first come, first served basis.


*To avail of the €5.75 ticket price applicants must be 16 or under or 60 or older on the 29th August, 2012. All ticket prices quoted are converted to Euro from the original British Pound ticket price based on current exchange rates. Exchange rates are subject to change over time. Special ticket products have also been developed for the Paralympic Games, including day passes which will enable ticketholders to see a range of sports taking place in the Olympic Park or at ExCeL on that day on a general admission basis. This will enable spectators to see several different sports - from Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Rugby, Goalball, 5-a-side Football, Wheelchair Basketball and 7-a-side Football in the Olympic Park, to Judo, Table Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Fencing, Boccia and Powerlifting at ExCeL. Tickets for Athletics, Cycling, Swimming and some finals of other sports will be sold on a reserved seating basis only.
Wheelchair spaces will be available in all price categories for every Paralympic sport, subject to availability. As with the Olympic Games, the price of a ticket for a wheelchair space will include a companion seat next to it. Applicants who are deaf or have a hearing impairment, visually impaired people or people with limited mobility can indicate additional requirements. The London 2012 'Ticketcare' scheme will also run for the Paralympic Games whereby any successful ticket applicant with high dependency care needs can apply for an additional ticket for their carer or PA.
