Olympic Round up from the Providence Resources Sailing Team

09 May 2012

Irish Olympic campaigners Peter O’Leary and David Burrows maintained a strong position in the Star fleet at the World Championships in Hyeres. They finished 7th in a very trickey race today and the duo remain in contention in third place overall just 1 point behind the reigning World Champions from Brazil Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada. Olympic gold medallists Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson still lead the event.

‘I am delighted for the guys to get a single digit score in very light difficult conditions. Tomorrow is a reserve day with no sailing so they will be back on the race course on Thursday well rested.’ Stated Marc Pickel, ISA Star Coach

Meanwhile in Boltenhagen, Germany James Espey from Ballyholme Yacht Club who achieved Olympic qualification yesterday continued with a strong performance today leaving him lying in 41st place overall in the 168 strong fleet, a personal best for Espey.

Ryan Seaton & Matt McGovern, the Irish 49er Olympic campaigners had a race win today in a regatta which has seen a very mixed performance from the pairing. They are lying 42nd overall after 6 races and 1 discard in Croatia.
