24 Sep 2009

John Treacy, Irish Olympian and current CEO of the Irish Sports Council will be leading a walk in the Dublin hills on October 4 as part of National Trails Day.

John is delighted to invite local people, families and walking enthusiasts to join him on a leisurely stroll in the Dublin Mountains, taking in sections of the new Dublin Way and the great Wicklow Way.

This event is one of 10 taking place in Co. Dublin for National Trails day and along with 110 events planned countrywide, aims to promote the growing number of recreational trails across the Island of Ireland.

Recreational trails offer numerous opportunities for physical activity and outdoor pursuits to a wide range of people. Depending upon design, trails can accommodate families with children, the elderly, people with mobility impairments as well as satisfy those seeking challenging adventures and a sense of achievement. Participation in trail activities like walking or cycling on a regular basis can also improve health and well being.

Speaking about the event John highlighted that:

"leisure sports like walking and cycling are fantastic ways of staying fit, healthy and active and I encourage people from all over the country to take part in one of many events that are scheduled as part of National Trails Day"

The John Treacy Walk will begin at 2pm in Ticknock Forest Car Park, South Dublin and all are welcome to join John on a leisurely stroll around the Dublin Mountains.
