Mount Pleasant Open

29 Aug 2013

Lisburn player Tony Stephenson is top men's seed for this weekend's Mount Pleasant Open in Dublin, which marks the start of the badminton season. So large is the entry for the tournament that Mount Pleasant has hired nearby Whitehall Road for some of the early rounds. Stephenson is seeded to meet Liam O'Leary in tonight's men's singles final, although Joshua Magee in the lower half of the draw could cause an upset.

Mount Pleasant's Jennie King, who played her club badminton in Germany last season, is top seed for the women's singles with junior international Rachael Darragh at No 2. In the men's doubles Tony Stephenson and Tony Murphy are likely to face Dan Magee and Niall Tierney in the final. Murphy and King pair up for the mixed doubles, where Dan Magee and Fiona Glennon pose the biggest threat, while for the women's doubles, Glennon and King are seeded at No 2 behind Caroline O'Sullivan and Grace Webster.
