MOTORSPORTS Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Month

12 May 2010

22 year-old Patrick McKenna from Swords, Co Dublin, the current holder of the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Year Award, has got off to a great start for 2010, being selected by the judges as the Dunlop Driver of the Month for April.

Patrick is racing in the USA this year, in the very competitive USF2000 National Championship, and finished 2nd and 3rd in the first pair of races at St. Petersburg, Florida, leaving him holding second place in the Championship after the opening weekend.

Last week, in official testing for the next championship race, due to be held on May 29, the eve of the world famous Indianapolis 500, the Dubliner completely dominated his opposition, setting best time in all eight sessions at O'Reilly Raceway Park despite never having previously driven on an oval circuit.

Patrick was a champion in Kart Racing before he moved on to Formula Ford 1600, and was runner up in the 2008 Young Racing Driver of the Year Award. He is sponsored by Willsborough Transport, thanks to Paul Kenny.

Having been selected as the first Dunlop Driver of the Month for the 2010 season, Patrick is now a contender once again for the prestigious €50,000 Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award. This award is presented annually and is sponsored by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
