More Irish success with Lenihan, Dunlevy and McCrystal in the medals

Ireland’s successful Paralympic Games continued on the penultimate day with Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal adding a silver medal in the Women's B Road Race to go along with the gold they won earlier in the week, while teenager Noelle Lenihan made it a hat-trick of discus medals for Ireland with bronze in the F38 event.

Congratulating the medal winners, Sport Ireland Chairman, Kieran Mulvey, said: “Having to battle through gruelling conditions on the Pontal course, Katie-George and Eve have shown themselves to be tremendous athletes. Off the course, they have also shown that they are wonderful ambassadors for Ireland and the sport of cycling. I have no doubt their performances in Rio will inspire many to get involved in the Sport.

“On behalf of Sport Ireland, congratulations to Katie-George, Eve, Cycling Ireland and Paralympics Ireland on a wonderful games on the bike for Ireland.”

Hot on the heels of the cycling success, teenager Noelle Lenihan added a third medal in the discus for Ireland as she claimed the bronze medal.

Mr Mulvey continued: “It is no wonder that leading into the Games Noelle was named as ‘one to watch’ and she certainly lived up to that billing. At just 16 years of age, this is a truly magnificent achievement and thoroughly deserved following impressive showings in the World Championships last year and the Europeans in June where she set a new world record. I would like to congratulate Noelle, her coaches and all at Paralympics Ireland.”
