Ireland's Sycerika McMahon has claimed a Bronze medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France.

In Swimming's first International competition since the Olympic Games McMahon set three Irish Senior Records in one day to finish third in the 50m Breaststroke Final in a time of 30.34 behind Czech Republic's Petra Chocova (30.02) and Rikke Pederson (30.25) of Denmark. 26 year old Chocova also took Gold ahead of McMahon when she won Silver at the European Long Course Championships in May. Having set a new Irish Senior Record in the morning heats (30.88), the 17 year old went on to qualify as 3rd fastest out of the semi-finals in 30.56 and into the final where she swam a lifetime best and another Irish Senior Record.

After receiving her medal, the London Olympian then went on to compete as part of the Women's 4x50m Freestyle Team Relay with Jane Roberts, Shani Stallard and Clodagh Flood where Ireland finished in 8th place overall in 1:46.95. Denmark took Gold in 1:38.10.

Swim Irelands National Performance Director Peter Banks was delighted with the team's performance on Day 1 "All of the swimmers have performed very well today, we are all delighted with Sycerika's medal, she has worked extremely hard since the Games. The women's relay final was a great achievement and for the junior swimmers to step up to international competition and perform personal bests and break record's is a great sign for the future".
