McMahon 12th At European Championships In Medley Semi-Final
Sycerika McMahon took over a second off her heat time from this morning to finish 12th overall in the 200m Individual Medley semi-finals at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin today.
Not happy with her time of 2:15.46 this morning McMahon put in an impressive performance this evening to finish just .75 of a second off a Final position. Her time of 2:14.42 was a season's best and only .04 of a second off her personal best in the event which she swam at World Championships in Barcelona in 2013.
Commenting after the race, the Texas A&M student said "It was good to get back for the semi-final but once again it's not what I'm looking for right now. It's a step in the right direction, I've improved since Commonwealth Games and that's what I need to keep doing. The IM is a work in progress for me and it can only get better from here".
Hungary's Katinka Hosszu continued her domination of the Medley events in Berlin with a new championship record in the same semi-final as McMahon, she touched in 2:08.41 to progress as the fastest qualifier for tomorrow's Final.
Continuing with her busy schedule this week McMahon returns to the pool in the morning along with Fiona Doyle for the heats of the 200m Breaststroke. Doyle has made good progress this year so far with the 200m Breaststroke setting an Irish Record of 2:29.86 at Canadian Championships in April, a time that ranks her 17th in tomorrow's event.
