LGFA - Time to Change the Record

The captains of the 6 competing TG4 All Ireland Finalist teams joined with the president of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association today in Croke Park to urge supporters to help them to ‘Change the Record.’ The TG4 All Ireland Finals take place at Croke Park on Sunday with LGFA president, Marie Hickey, setting a target of attracting an attendance of over 33,000 making it the largest ever attendance at a TG4 All Ireland Final and the largest ever female sporting event in Ireland.

The TG4 Junior All Ireland Final will take place at 11:45am when Antrim play Longford, Kildare will hope to make up for their TG4 All Ireland Intermediate Final disappointment in 2015 when they return to the final with Clare providing the opposition at 1:45pm. Then at 4:00pm Cork will hope to create their own record as they meet Dublin in the TG4 Senior All Ireland Final. Cork will be hoping to make it a 6th TG4 Senior All Ireland Championship in a row and join Kerry as the most successful county in Ladies Gaelic Football with 11 TG4 All Ireland titles. Dublin will be aiming to win the Brendan Martin Cup for the second time in their history and the first since 2010. This is Dublin’s third year in a row competing in the TG4 Senior All Ireland Final having fallen narrowly short to Cork in both 2014 and 2015.

Speaking at the TG4 All Ireland Finals Media Day LGFA President Marie Hickey said ‘We would like to urge our great members and supporters of the game to make a special effort to come to Croke Park on Sunday. We have enjoyed one of the best championships we have ever had and the entertainment on the field has been absolutely top class. The tickets will be available at the ground and are very reasonably priced. If our sport is to take the next step forward, out of the shadow of other sports, then setting a new attendance record of over 33,000 will make a huge difference. This will be a great occasion and we will have three very interesting matches so there is no reason why we can’t eclipse the number set in 2001 when Laois met Mayo in the TG4 Senior All Ireland Final.’

TG4, who have sponsored the championships since 2001, will televise all of the matches live on Sunday. TG4 ءrd Stiurthَir, Pَl س Gallachَir, said " We are proud to support LGFA's drive to increase further the attendance at next Sunday's All-Ireland Finals. This great sport deserves the largest possible audience, in the stadium and on TV."
