#LetsGetVisible Campaign for Dublin Pride Health & Wellbeing Week
Sport Ireland and Sporting Pride are pleased to launch the #LetsGetVisible campaign as part of Dublin Pride Health and Wellbeing Week which takes place from 14th to 20th June 2021. The campaign aims to recognise and acknowledge the importance of visibility and representation amongst the LGBTQI+ community, specifically in the sport sector.
John Treacy, the Chief Executive of Sport Ireland welcomes the launch of the campaign and the partnership with Sporting Pride: “Inclusion is a core value of the National Sports Policy 2018-2027 and Sport Ireland is committed to promoting that value by ensuring that sport is welcoming and inclusive, offering appropriate opportunity for participation and improvement to all. Sport Ireland has been engaging with the sport sector, representative organisations and individuals to discuss how the sport sector can work together to promote inclusion and embrace diversity in sport. There is some way to go yet until everyone feels comfortable and welcome in sport but campaigns like this, and celebrating Pride can help to bring us one step closer to this end goal. I would like to wish Sport Ireland’s LGBTQI+ staff members, athletes, participants and sport enthusiasts a Happy Pride”.
Sporting Pride Chairman Aidan Walsh added: "We are delighted to work with Sport Ireland on this ground-breaking campaign to show support for the LGBTQ+ community within all aspects of Irish sport, which will appropriately take place during Dublin Pride's Health & Wellbeing Week. The National Governing Bodies and Local Sport Partnerships who share this important message are, for the first time, telling members of the LGBTQ+ community that they will be welcomed with open arms to participate, officiate, support and volunteer...a huge step in Ireland's journey to become world leaders for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport."
Director of Participation and Ethics, Sport Ireland, Dr. Una May commented: “A lot of work is ongoing in Sport Ireland and the sport sector as a whole to make sport welcoming and inclusive for everyone, including members of the LGBTQI+ community. Pride month is a great opportunity to celebrate the progress to date and to ensure that momentum continues and that everyone feels welcome and included in sport. I encourage everyone to download the #LetsGetVisible social media frame and use #LetsGetVisible to show your support”.
