Keane Continues Busy Schedule With Season's Best 100m Freestyle At European Championships in Eindhoven

06 Aug 2014

Following her 4th place finish in the SB9 100m Breaststroke Final earlier today, Dubliner Ellen Keane was back in the pool for the S9 100m Freestyle Final at the Paralympic Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven, Holland.

Not usually a Freestyle swimmer, Keane swam a lifetime best in the 50m event earlier this week, going sub 31 seconds for the first time in her career, finishing in 30.62 seconds and 4th overall. Keane continued her good form with a season's best swim in the 100m Freestyle tonight touching in 1:08.29 and eighth overall. Great Britain's Stephanie Millward and Amy Marren grabbed Gold and Silver with Spain's Sarai Gascon finishing in the Bronze medal position.

Speaking after the race Keane commented "I'm happy to get another season's best today. I'm not normally a Freestyle swimmer so it's been nice to swim some different events at these championships. I'm looking forward to a rest tomorrow and to prepare for the 200m IM on Friday".

There will be no Irish swimmers in action tomorrow. On Friday, James Scully returns to the pool in the heats of the S5 200m Freestyle, the event he claimed Bronze in at the 2013 World Championship, while Ellen Keane continues her busy schedule this week in the SM9 200m Individual Medley Final.
