Joss Lynam RIP

The death has taken place after a short illness of Joss Lynam, the renowned Irish International mountaineer. Joss was a founder member of the Irish Mountaineering Club and former Chair of the Irish Association of Adventure Sports.

Joss, a Dublin based engineer participated in his first major climbing international expedition in the 1940’s to India. Subsequently he participated in numerous expeditions to the Alps and many other regions and was deputy leader of the first all–Irish major international expedition to Rakaposhi in 1964

Apart from his renowned climbing career, Joss was also closely linked with the development of the Irish National Waymarked Trails extending over 2000 miles in over 30 routes nationwide.

Through his long association with Cospoir and the Irish Sports Council, Joss gave many years of distinguished voluntary service.  His vast experience and excellent leadership had a major influence in the development of the long distance walking routes and the national trails network throughout the country.   

To Nora, his family and many friends, the Irish Sports Council wishes to convey its sincerest condolences and thank Joss for the wonderful contribution he made to the development of outdoor recreational activities in Ireland over the last half century.
