ISC & IABA Announce Anti Doping Violation

28 Jun 2013

The Irish Sports Council and the Irish Amateur Boxing Association jointly announce that the Irish Sport Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel has determined that boxer Sean Turner has committed an anti-doping rule violation. Mr Turner admitted to the panel a violation of Article 2.4 of the Irish Anti-Doping Rules by failing on three occasions within eighteen (18) months to return whereabouts details by the required deadline. This was the first case of a whereabouts violation recorded under the Irish Anti-Doping Rules.

The panel took into consideration the athlete's degree of fault in determining the appropriate sanction and while acknowledging the importance of strict adherence to the whereabouts requirements noted that the athlete had in all cases submitted his whereabouts details albeit beyond the stated deadline. The panel also determined that taking all the circumstances into consideration the athlete's result in the 2013 National Championships should stand.

Mr Sean Turner was sanctioned by the imposition on him of a period of ineligibility of one year commencing on 13th March.

The hearing was held under Article 8 (Disciplinary Process) of the Rules and this announcement is made pursuant to Article 15 (Public Disclosure) of the Rules.
