Irish Wheelchair Association – Sport, National Athletic Championships
This weekend, 19th/20th May 2007, some of Ireland’s best paralympic athletes will be in action in Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin.
The Irish Wheelchair Association – Sport will host its National Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Our athletes have been training hard over the last few months, and for many this will be their first opportunity in 2007 to compete and hopefully achieve qualification standards for the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.
World Championship Medallists Garrett Culliton (Discus) and John McCarthy (Club) will be inaction, on both Saturday and Sunday. John will be hoping to improve the B standard he achieved last weekend at the Paralympic Cup in Manchester.
We are looking forward to promising performances from young female athlete duo of Lorraine Regan (Tullamore) and Orla Barry (Cork).
On the Track, Irish athletes Roy Guerin, Patrice Dockery and David Griffith will be competing in a range of disciplines.
This event is a major event in the athletes’ quest for qualification. It is also part of the “World Series” which offers athletes a chance to pick up points in a series of top class events around the world and win prizes at the end of the season.
Athletes from Australia, USA, Sweden, England and Wales will be competing in the event.
