Irish Wakeboard Team wins 2 Gold 1 Bronze and Team Silver at the European Wakeboard Championships

In a very successful event, Ireland took the the Silver Medal at the recent Europe & Africa (EA) Wakeboard Championships which were hosted by Coleraine City Council and Waterways Ireland. Over 100 athletes from 15 countries participated in the Championships.

David O’Caoimh, (22) from Dublin, delivered an amazing performance and successfully defended his 2015 Open Men and managed to defeat the current world champion - Massimiliano Piffaretti (ITA).

Eight times National Champion, David, who has been on the water since he was 5 years old, and left UCD in 2013 to turn professional, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to retain my title. This year's Championships were particularly tough because the current World Champion was competing so I knew it would be a hard battle'.

In the Masters' Division it was Pete Stewart and David Coates, both from Northern Ireland, who won the Gold and Bronze respectively.  In addition, Aisling Deegan (18), from Dublin and Nicole Carroll (18), from Cavan managed make the Finals in the Junior Women Division and came 4th and 5th respectively while the youngest Irish athlete, Zack Zebedee (13), who hails from Kildare, qualified through to come 6th in the Boys' Division. The Irish Team took the Silver Medal overall.
