Irish Team Claim Third In Dutch Eventing Nations Cup

14 Oct 2013

The Irish team of Camilla Speirs, Sarah Ennis, Austin O' Connor and Katie O'Sullivan has taken third place of 13 countries competing in the final Eventing Nations' Cup of 2013 at Boekelo in the Netherlands.

Best of the Irish was Camilla Speirs and Portersize Just a Jif (ISH), who added just four faults in today's show jumping phase to finish individual seventh of the 103 competitors taking part. The competition also represented a successful return to top International competition for Speirs's diminutive gelding, following a fall at last year's Olympic Games.

Next best for Ireland was Sarah Ennis with her 10 year old gelding Stellor Rebound (ISH) who left all the fences up in today's show jumping phase but added just one time penalty to finish individual 14th.

The third counting score came from Austin O'Connor and Balham Houdini (ISH), who added four faults today.

Ireland's fourth team member Katie O'Sullivan and Cooley Blue Flame (ISH) were eliminated in yesterday's cross country phase.

The Nations' Cup was won by Germany, with Great Britain in second place, with the individual title going to New Zealand's Lizzie Brown and Henton Attorney General.
