Irish Success for Badminton Ladies
Victory for the Irish
There was great Irish success in North Shore City, Auckland, New Zealand at the weekend when Chloe Magee and Huang Bing recorded their first international win in the North Shore International Ladies Doubles.
Having played exceptionally well and not dropping a set on the way to the final, the top seeds looked well placed for a victory but they knew they would be in for a tough match against New Zealander Catherine Moody and Vietnamese, Nguyen Nhung Le Ngoc who had also played very well in reaching the final.
The first set went according to plan with a strong victory only to see the Kiwi/Vietnamese opposition play very well and level the match at 1 set all. The scores reached 11-11 in the third before Huang and Magee could pull away and record their fine win.
Chloe had also a great run in the Ladies singles losing out to the winner of the event, the impressive Larissa Griga who made it 2 wins out of two having won in Melbourne last week.
Next up, Karen, Chloe and Donal O’Halloran are flying to Singapore before they board a bus to Kuala Lumpur and train there for the lead up to the World Championships. Ruth However heads to New Caledonia to play in the Noumea International before joining the rest of the players in Kuala Lumpur for training. Scott returns to Kuala Lumpur next week and will be joined by Sam Magee, who is also heading out for some training there.
If the next few weeks go well then hopefully we will see some great performances and results for these guys who have put a huge amount of effort in.
Great credit goes to each of the players for their effort and enthusiasm because despite to exotic locations the players are behaving professionally and playing accordingly.
Thanks also to Badminton Ireland, the ISC and the OCI for all their support.
