Irish squads announced for IPC Athletics & Swimming World Championships

James Nolan (Head of Paralympic Athletics) and Dave Malone (Head of Paralympic Swimming) announced their respective Irish squads competing at this summer's IPC Athletics and Swimming World Championships.

In the first major gatherings of international Paralympic athletes since the hugely successful London 2012 Paralympic Games, Irish medalists from both sports will commence their preparations for Rio 2016.

 

Squad Details:

IPC Athletics World Championships Lyon July 19th - 28th

  • Jason Smyth (Co Derry) - T13 100m & 200m (Double gold at London 2012)
  • Michael McKillop (Co Antrim) - T37 800m &1500m (Double gold at London 2012)
  • Catherine O'Neill (Co Wexford) - F51 Discus & Club Throw (Silver, Discus, at London 2012)
  • Orla Barry (Co Cork) - F57 Discus (Bronze at London 2012)
  • Heather Jameson (Co Dublin) - T37 100m, 200m & Long Jump (Finalist at London 2012)
  • John McCarthy (Co Cork) - T51 100m & 200m (Finalist at London 2012)
  • Deirdre Mongan (Co Galway) - F52/53 Shot Put
  • Amanda Crotty (Co Cork) - T12 1500m

 

IPC Swimming World Championships Montreal August 12th - 18th

  • Darragh McDonald (Co Wexford) - S6 50/100/400m freestyle (Gold, 400m, London 2012)
  • Bethany Firth (Co Down) - S14 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle & 100m breaststroke (Gold, 100m backstroke, London 2012)
  • James Scully (Co Meath) - S5 50m backstroke, 50m/100m & 200m freestyle (Finalist at London 2012)
  • Laurence McGivern (Newry) - S9 100m backstroke (Finalist at London 2012)
  • Ellen Keane (Co Dublin) - S9 50m/100m freestyle, 200m IM, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly (Finalist at London 2012)
  • Jonathan McGrath (Co Clare) - S8 400m freestyle (Competed at London 2012)
