Irish Sports Council Welcome Sports Capital Announcement

The Irish Sports Council are delighted to welcome today's Sports Capital Grants announcement by the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring T.D.

The investment is great news for Irish Sport and highlights the Governments continued commitment to sport in Ireland.

The development of sports and physical recreation facilities at local level plays an integral part in supporting the participation strategy throughout the country.

Chairman of the Irish Sports Council Kieran Mulvey explained:

"The Council continues to ensure sport is progressive and attracts participants from every corner of Ireland, from every age group and from all social backgrounds. The development of sustainable facilities, in particular in rural locations, along with the provision of equipment will help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation".

Chief Executive John Treacy also highlighted:

"Today's announcement is a significant investment in the future of Irish Sport. With membership of governing bodies of sport increasing considerably, the capital investment will support the continued development of sports at a local, regional and national level".
