IRISH SPORTS COUNCIL TO HOST STAND AT NATIONAL PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS

20 Sep 2007

For the first time, the Irish Sports Council will attend the Ploughing Championships to promote the National Network of Local Sports Partnerships. The purpose in attending the Championships is to promote the Sports Partnerships and their programmes.

Representatives of the Partnerships will be available to discuss their work and to provide details and information on where the offices are located.

In 2007 the Irish Sports Council will complete the national roll out of this initiative resulting in a total of 32 Sports Partnerships across the Country. The Sports Partnerships are charged with improving opportunities to participate in sport for every member of community, so everyone is encouraged to visit the Sports Council stand and meet with the Sports Partnerships.

John Treacy, Chief Executive, Irish Sports Council: “The Sports Partnerships have proven to be successful in the areas where they are active and by the end of the year will be in place all over the country. The Ploughing Championships is a great opportunity to meet a wide spectrum of the community, to highlight the work of the Partnerships and to promote the benefits of sport and physical  activity”.

The National Ploughing Championships take place from September 25th to 27th in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
