Irish Sailor, Finn Lynch Claims 4th At Laser U21 World Championships

National Yacht Club sailor Finn Lynch, has claimed 4th place at the Laser Standard U21 World Championships in Medemblik, The Netherlands. Baltimore Sailing Club's Fionn Lyden finished in 12th place. Both Sailors made the Gold Fleet for the final day, and Finn reveled in the more competitive sailing environment, with fewer boats.

Sailing was challenging all week at the inland venue, where light breezes and cancelled races towards the end of the week provided to backdrop to what was a tight Championship, with the leaderboard changing on a regular basis. Lynch eased his way into the championship, placing in the 20's in the early rounds, before finding his rhythm to climb the leader board; coming into the final day in 4th place.

This marquee event in the Laser sailing calendar in one of the most competitive sailing classes in the world. Finn and Fionn are members of the Irish Sailing Association (ISA) Performance Pathway Development team, along with Darragh O'Sullvan who finished 36th overall in Medemblik.

Spain's Joel Rodriguez took the overall win, and claimed the 2015 title.

Finn Lynch said following the final race: "It's bittersweet right now, I raced really well today, but it wasn't enough. I'll enjoy tonight and get back on the path for the European Championshops next week in Spain. The early part of the week was full on, but the more competitive Gold fleet racing today suits me better and that's why I did better in the latter rounds."
