Irish Open Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre

The 2011 Irish Open Youth/Senior Long Course Championships continued today at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Olympian Andrew Bree, swimming for Ards SC, won another Gold Medal today in the Men's 100m Breaststroke final, in a time of 1:03.19. Michael Dawson, also Ards SC, took the Silver medal (1:05.38). Dolphin SC swimmer Johnny Quinn was third (1:05.61).

The finals of the 100m Freestyle events were both dominated by foreign athletes, who are awarded commemorative medals in these championships. The national titles were won by Sean Leahy of Dolphin SC (53.09) and Bethany Carson, swimming for Lisburn City SC (58.27).

The event continues until Sunday, with heats beginning at 9:30am each day and final's at 4:30pm each evening.

Meanwhile, in Sheffield, following another strong morning in the pool the Irish athletes swam finals this evening with excellent swims from Ali Berry to finish in 6th in a new personal best time in Girls 13Yrs 400m Freestyle, whilst Lydia Kehoe delivered a superb swim to finish in Bronze Medal position in the 12Yrs 200m Breaststroke over 4 seconds faster that her previous best.
