Irish Hockey Announces New Chief Executive

Irish Hockey have today announced Mike Heskin as their new Chief Executive.


Heskin who comes from Galway has held a number of senior management position with Irish and multinational companies in the property, insurance services and healthcare sectors.


In 2010, Mike joined the board of Irish Hockey and served as its financial officer. Since then Mike has continued to serve on several committees within Irish hockey. Prior to his involvement with hockey, Mike served on the national executive of Rowing Ireland for six years and the international rowing committee for eight years. He has managed and coached Irish rowing teams at all levels including World Championships and Olympics where he was the rowing team manager for the Beijing Olympics.


On his appointment Mike said "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to work with Irish Hockey at a very exciting time in its development, I believe hockey has made great strides forward in the last number of years and has positioned itself well to meet the challenges that face the sport in the current environment. I look forward with confidence to a growing, thriving domestic game and a high performance programme which can achieve its goal of participation at the Olympics in Rio 2016 and I hope to build on the already excellent partnership hockey has with the Irish sport council. "


Chairman Dennis Millar expressed Irish Hockey's delight at the appointment commenting "The IHA are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Heskin as CEO of the organisation. Mike has extensive knowledge of our sport and structures having served on our Board and committees in recent years. Mike's understanding of high performance sport and financial background will be hugely beneficial as the sport looks to continue to build from the Grass roots up to its International teams aiming for Rio."


Mike will commence his role officially on November 5th based in the Dublin Irish Hockey Offices at UCD.
