Irelands Women Beat Holland

A first ever victory over the Netherlands ended the Irish women's campaign at the European Team Badminton Championships in Basel, Switzerland.

With Chloe Magee, Alannah Stephenson and Sinead Chambers all winning their singles in straight sets, Ireland were confirmed a win despite losing the two doubles. Jennie King and Stephenson lost a tough first doubles, with Magee and Chambers losing the second doubles narrowly. It was an upbeat end to a campaign that had seen them losing to strong Bulgaria and France in earlier matches.

For the Irish men, their toughest test was left until last when they they faced top seeds and defending champions Denmark in their final pool match. The full match of three singles and two doubles was played with the Irish putting up a brave fight but losing 0-5. They could still look back on an encouraging display at the tournament after beating Slovakia 5-0 and narrowly losing to Czech Republic 2-3.
