Ireland narrowly defeated by England in Hamburg

28 Jul 2013

Andrew Meredith's Green Machine finished off their Hamburg Masters today with a narrow 3-2 defeat to England.

Both sides put in improved performances following defeats against the Olympic Champions Germany & Silver Medallists Netherlands in the first two rounds of games in Hamburg.

England took a half time lead through Carson in an intensive first half. Ireland and England traded blows early in the second half as Kyle Good pulled Ireland back on level terms before Cheesman quickly equalised for England. Conor Harte levelled again for the Green Machine and the game seemed destined to finish as a draw before Catlin struck for England with two minutes remaining on the clock to seal the victory.

Prior to the match, Ireland's Bruce McCandless was honoured for his 50th cap in a green jersey. Germany & Netherlands will battle it out later today for the honour of Hamburg Masters Champions.
