Ireland 1-2 Netherlands (men's hockey)

23 Jan 2012

Ireland took on the Netherlands in the second of three training matches taking place in Alicante, Spain.

Ireland put in a much better performance against the Dutch today although again they conceded an early goal in the 4th minute when Kemperman scored from open play to make it 1-0.

It was the Dutch who were next on the score sheet once again when Weusthof double his sides lead in the 29th minute capitalising from attacking open play.

Ireland had the better of the second half and were deservedly rewarded in the 52nd minute when John Jackson hit a high reverse shot from the left hand side of the circle to make it 2-1. The game flowed end to end, providing great entertainment for those watching despite a lack of goals in the second half.

Ireland will play the Netherlands again on Tuesday at 1pm Irish Time
