ILGU - Forbes leads Irish challenge in England
Emma Forbes (Royal Portrush) is tied 7th at Nottinghamshire Golf Club after an impressive opening round of 73 at the English U16 Open Amateur Stroke Play. Forbes was a member of the Ulster Girls interprovincial team this year and proved just how good she is after her round yesterday. She struggled on the opening 9 but recovered well on the way in as she secured birdies on the 11th, 13th and 14threspectively.
The next best of the Irish are Kate Lanigan (Hermitage) and Georgia Carr (Milltown) after posting scores of 78. Anna Foster (Elm Park), Sara Byrne (Douglas) and Lauren Walsh (Castlewarden) are further down the field after rounds of 80, 81 and 82.
The girls play one more 18 hole stroke play qualifying round today and the leading 36 players plus ties shall qualify for the 36 hole stroke play final played on Thursday.
