Hockey: Ireland to take on world champions Germany
Ireland’s Men Take On World Champions Germany.
Ireland’s Senior Men will travel to Germany at the end of this month to play the World Champions Germany as part of their continued build up to the Europeans this coming August.
Ireland most recently played the Germans at Easter time where they suffered two defeats, 2-1 and 4-1. Dave Passmore and his team clearly welcome the chance to play against the Germans once again ‘It is great to have for us to have secured these matches against the world champions, especially on the back of the matches we played at Easter. The two matches we played then were reasonably close although the Germans gave us a lesson in clinical finishing.’
‘The Irish players will have come off the back of a 3 or 4 week break from hockey so we will need to get up to the speed of things pretty quickly and adjust to the pace of the game at the highest level. When we played the Germans at Easter they had just completed their indoor season so I expect them to be sharper outdoors on this occasion’ continued Passmore.
Although Passmore will have his Cork Harlequins players back in the fold (they were on club duty in Prague at Easter), he will still not be at full strength as this time his Pembroke Wanderers members will be in Prague at the European B Division Trophy.
Passmore has named his squad of eighteen, which has included the two goal keepers Gareth Lennox and Iain Walker.
