Don't miss your chance to watch some of the world’s best young volleyball players in action during the U20 Women’s European Volleyball Championships on the Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin from Monday August 5th to August 13th.

With a million viewers expected to tune in online and thousands due to attend in person, the Sport Ireland Campus will be at the heart of European volleyball action.

Volleyball Ireland Chief Executive Gary Stewart said: “Hosting this championship is a huge opportunity to grow the game in Ireland. We want to inspire the next generation of athletes and that starts here.”

The U20 Women’s European Volleyball Championships is the pinnacle of underage volleyball in Europe. This year’s tournament brings together elite teams such as Italy, Poland, and Serbia, as well as strong competitors from Finland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and Portugal, and, of course, host nation, Ireland.

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May said: “We’re very happy to welcome the 2024 U20 Women’s European Volleyball Championships to Dublin and the Sport Ireland Campus.

“This championship will feature top teams and again showcases our ability to host world-class events.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming fans from all over Europe to this great celebration of volleyball and a chance to see the future stars of the sport competing for European glory.”

The event is a thrilling round-robin format, with 28 matches spread over seven days, featuring four matches a day. The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals in Sofia, Bulgaria, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

Ireland’s U20 team, led by captain Laura Connolly, has undergone rigorous training, including a 10-day camp in Vienna, to ensure they are at their peak for the championship.

This championship is historic for several reasons. Not only is it the first time that Ireland has hosted a European volleyball final, it’s also the world’s first period-supportive volleyball event.

In partnership with FabLittleBag, Volleyball Ireland will ensure that all athletes have access to necessary period products, allowing them to focus solely on their performance without any additional stress. This initiative is a significant step forward in promoting inclusivity and addressing period anxiety, which has been a barrier for many young athletes.
