Hammer Record for King on Day 2 of the Woodie's DIY Juvenile Track and Field Championships

In between the showers at Tullamore Harriers stadium there was plenty of top class competition at Day 2 of the Woodie's DIY Juvenile Track and Field Championships.

One of the first events of the day was the boys U16 hammer and it provided one of the best performances of the meet. First to throw was Adam King (Iveragh AC) who threw a 'modest' 63.22m in the first round. However, he was only warming up and he followed in the second round with 72.16m to overtake the record of Fellan McGuigan, who threw 70.74m last year. King went on to improve his best in the third round with 72.24m to round off some great throwing.

The U13 boys shot record was set by Colin Kingston who threw 13.91m in 2008. Today it was the turn of James Kelly (Finn Valley AC) to improve on that performance. Twice he had throws over 14m, with 14.73m his best in the first round.

Sophie Meredith (St. Mary's Limerick AC) won the girls U12 long jump with a best of 4.82m to better the 4.76m of Ciara Dolan in 2006.

Orla O'Brien (Ferrybank AC) threw the javelin 34.36m to win the U14 competition and improve on the record of 33.73m by Jacqui burns in 2010.

Ciara Deely (Kilkenny City Harriers) added 1cm to Eimear O'Callaghan's record when she won the u13 high jump with a clearance of 1.51m.
