12th World University Golf Championships - Sun City, South Africa - Day 2

The Irish students participating at the World University Golf Championships are eager to ensure their results improve over the last two rounds of the event which is being held in Sun City, South Africa.

University of Limerick student Niamh Kitching is the best chance of an Irish medal currently lying five shots of third placed Marion Ricordeau of France. Current World University Champion Danielle McVeigh has been suffering from a virus during the opening two rounds of the championships and has carded two disappointing rounds, although signs are of a recovery and better is expected from the NUI Maynooth student. Their team mate, Gillian O'Leary of Dublin City University has been assisting Kitching to ensure a ninth place position for the Ladies Team.

In the Men's event, NUI Maynooth's Brendan Walton shot an impressive 75 on the opening round, before falling off the pace slightly in his second eighteen holes. His young compatriots have all struggled to string consistent play together, on what is proving to be a challenging course for all competitors.

Ireland currently lie in 12th position overall in the Men's event.
