Golf: EuroPro Tour Championship
The 2007 EuroPro Tour Championship will be held at the prestigious Fairmont St Andrews venue in Scotland from October 31st to November 2nd.
This is the final event of the season, a campaign which has seen the best young golf professionals play in 14 tough, competitive and exciting tournaments around Britain and Ireland. Only the top 60 in the Order of Merit will be competing.
There is no cut so each player will pay three rounds and there is €100,000 in prize money for the players to battle for. Another huge incentive for each of the players is that they will be vying to secure Challenge Tour cards for the 2008 campaign. Those players that are in the top five in the Order of Merit after the Tour Championship will qualify to play at the next level in golf and move a step closer to playing on the main European Tour.
Current Order of Merit leader Graeme Clark has already guaranteed himself a place in the top five after three tour event wins, while Colm Moriarty, currently in third in the Order of Merit, has also earned a 2008 Challenge Tour card, following his victory on the Challenge Year earlier in the year. Should Colm finish in the Top Five of the EuroPro rankings the sixth player will also get a 2008 Challenge Tour card.
The EuroPro tour has already seen three Irish victories in 2008 through Colm Moriarty, Moriarty, Michael McDermott and Brian McElhinney, all supported by Team Ireland In total seven Irish golfers have qualified for the EuroPro Championship by finishing in the top 60 of the Order of Merit.
