GloHealth Road Relay Championships Of Ireland Set For Raheny

The GloHealth National Road Relay Championships of Ireland take place this Sunday, 19th of April. Club teams from all across the country will make their way to Raheny, Dublin in the battle for the three national team titles on offer. The 35+, 50+ and senior women will complete the 1 mile x 2mile and 1 mile legs while the senior men are tasked with 2 mile x 1 mile x 3 mile and 2 mile legs.

Letterkenny AC trio of Natasha Adams, Fionnuala Diver and Annmarie McGlynn who are coming off some impressive performances recently on the roads will hope to make the long trip from Letterkenny worthwhile on Sunday. Defending champions Leevale AC are back to defend their title and are bolstered by the inclusion of Lizzie Lee. Lee finished second last weekend at the national 10k championships in the Phoenix Park.

Sarah Mulligan will lead the charge for Dundrum South Dublin AC with strong teams also entered from Crusaders, Clonliffe Harriers and Raheny Shamrock AC.

Sligo AC who were the popular winners of the senior men's title last year are back to defend the title however with many of their major players from last year not available the title is likely to go elsewhere. Ennis Track finished second last year and with a strong team entered which includes Kevin Mulcaire and Rory Chesser a national title beckons.

European Indoor 1,500m finalist John Travers spearheads the Donore Harriers team with local rivals Clonliffe Harriers and Raheny Shamrock fielding high quality teams.

Host club Raheny Shamrock AC dominated the master categories last year winning the Women's 35+, 50+ and the men's 35+ categories. Rathfarnham WSAF broke the north Dublin club's stranglehold by winning the M50+ category. The master women will begin the day's proceedings as they get underway at 2pm with the senior men concluding the programme at 3.30pm.
