Galligan Close To World Indoor Track And Field Standard
Roseanne Galligan put down an impressive marker for the start of her indoor season campaign running 2:03.69 in Reykavik, Iceland today. This was very close to the qualification standard of 2:03 for the World Indoor Track and Field Championships which takes place in Sopot Poland in March. Galligan has a personal best of 2:02.84 which she set at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden last year. The race was won by Anita Hinriksdottir of Iceland in 2.01.82, a new European Junior Record with Aline Krebbs of Germany third in 2:06.24
On Saturday, there was plenty of Irish in action at the Hunter Track Classic in Newcastle, Australia with Laura Crowe finishing third in the 1500m in 4:11.49, improving on her previous best of 4:12.06. At the same meet 1500m specialist, Paul Robinson finished second in the 3000m in 7:58.56 with Mark Hanrahan fourth in 8:05:73.
While in the AIT International Arena in Athlone the Guest Mile was won by John Travers in 4:01.47, from Danny Mooney in 4:02.88 with Joe Warne third in 4:04.06.
