Future Stars In Action At The GloHealth National Juvenile Championships
Close to a thousand young athletes contested the GloHealth National Juvenile Championships taking place in Tullamore on Sunday, 12th of July.
Joseph McEvoy (Nenagh Olympic AC) set a new championship best performance in the high jump with his clearance of 1.82m in the U15 boy's competition. Another in record breaking form was Ciara Sheehy (Liscarroll AC) as she launched the shot put out to 14.10m in the U14 contest. Owen Russell (St Andrews AC) dominated the U19 hammer competition setting a new CBP of 65.75m.
Orlaith O'Brien (Ferrybank AC) continued to improve in the U17 javelin as she won the title and set a new CBP of 44.23m. Jordan Hoang (Tullamore Harriers AC) leaped out to 14.11m to keep the records rolling on a great day of competition in Tullamore. Liam Connaughton (Dunleer AC) was over 50m in the U16 javelin as he claimed the national title with a throw of 52.85m, another CBP.
Of the long hurdlers in action Ciaran Barnes (City of Lisburn AC) clocked the fastest time of the day in the 400m hurdles as he won the U18 title in a time of 55.10. Kelly-Ann Doyle (Carrick on Suir AC) won the girl's U19 title in a time of 63.32 seconds. Carla Sweeney (WSAF) timed her sprint to perfection to win the girl's U18 1500m title in a time of 4.58.60 while Clodagh O'Reilly (Annalee Striders AC) dominated the U19 contest with a winning margin of nearly six seconds as she won the title in a time of 4.49.07. Local athlete Chinie Izuchukwu (Tullamore Harriers AC) was a popular winner of the boy's U19 title in a time of 4.23.01.
Young Niamh Foley (St Mary's - Limerick AC) was a fine winner of the U14 200m title in a time of 25.99 seconds as Conor Morey (Leevale AC) dominated the U15 boy's event to win the national title in a time of 23.87 seconds. Of the older athletes Cillian Greene (Galway City Harriers AC) flew down the track to win the U18 contest in a time of 21.88 seconds. Lauren Ryan (Dooneen AC) ran a fast 24.73 seconds to win the girl's U17 national title.
