Fun To Full Potential - Coaching The Whole Athlete

A gathering of professionals and volunteers involved in sport coaching organised by Coaching Ireland, a division of the Irish Sports Council will take place on the 26th and 27th September. The focus of the 11th National Coaching forum is to celebrate the positive impact good coaching makes at all levels to individuals, clubs, communities and nations.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring said: "Coaches are a key part of our society. They give support and encouragement to sports people at all levels. Not only do they spend countless hours planning, organising and analysing all the details, but also helping people to develop as individuals."

The Forum will combine keynote speakers, with practical and applied sessions, with opportunities to network with coaches from different sports.
Keynote speakers include Billy Walsh (Head Coach of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) High Performance Team, Richard Bailey (Philosopher and Sport Scientist), Niels De Vos (Chief Executive of UK Athletics), Sergio Lara-Bercial (Senior Research Fellow at Leeds Metropolitan University, International Council for Coaching Excellence) and Missy Parker (Course Director Teaching Physical Education, Sport & Physical Activity MSc).

John Treacy CEO of the Irish Sports Council, explained "This event is an opportunity to further enhance the development of our coaches and drive towards excellence, through collaboration and knowledge sharing."

The event will take place in the Institute of Technology, Sligo. President of IT Sligo, Professor Terri Scott, said: "In a year when Sligo is a designated European Town of Sport for 2014, the Institute is delighted to host such a prestigious event".
