As part of the Sporting Fingal mission to embrace all sectors of the local community the League Ireland First Division fixture against Monaghan United tomorrow night (Friday July 10th) will be an Official Senior Citizens Night.
All over 65's will get free entry to the stadium on the night and the first 200 Senior Citizens in the gate will also receive a free match programme.
Sporting Fingal is marketing the event heavily through groups such as Active Retirement Ireland, Friends of the Elderly and Age Action Ireland. A number of Retirement Homes in the area have also been invited to bring a group along on the night. The game takes place in Morton Stadium in Santry with a 7.45pm kick off time.
Irish Stairlifts and Bathrooms have come on board as Corporate Match Night Sponsors for the event. The company which offers a comprehensive range of products to less able and elderly people including stairlifts, thru-floor lifts, level access showers, ramps and extensions will be setting up a stand on the night to answer any questions about their products and services. "It is fantastic to get involved with this initiative," said Carl Riley, Managing Director of Irish Stairlifts and Bathrooms. "Senior citizens are a key target market for our products and it is great that a League of Ireland football team have had the innovation to make a kind gesture towards this group. I look forward to seeing a big attendance in Santry on the night".
Sporting Fingal is a League of Ireland First Division club established in 2007 through Fingal County Council and taking part in the League since 2008. The whole ethos of the club is community and the development of an inclusive community spirit within the region. In our short history we have already put a number of initiatives in place to help address social issues within the county.
These include
- The first League of Ireland club to introduce a Special Olympics team.
- The first League of Ireland club to introduce a Powerchair soccer team.
- The establishment of a junior supporters club (Fingal Freddie) which raises money for the sports and recreation fund in primary schools.
- The establishment of a community trust which runs courses for minority and disadvantaged groups with the aim of using football as a vehicle to address social issues.
- The establishment of a third level scholarship scheme with DCU and IT Blanchardstown so that talented sports people in the region can continue their education whilst continuing to pursue a career in sport
