Evans shows great form as he secures two last 16 spots

Olympics-bound Scott Evans reached the last 16 in both men's singles and doubles at the Russia White Nights Pre Olympic Badminton tournament in Gatchina, Russia .
Against Russian player Sergey Shumilkinin in the men's singles, Evans took control of the net halfway through the first set and keeping the tempo fast, closed out the set at 21-16. He kept up the momentum in the second set, winning 21-15 and now faces Anton Kaisti of Finland in the last 16.


In the men's doubles, Evans with partner Sam Magee outclassed Russian pair Vasily Belevantsev and Maxim Popinov winning 21-8 21-12. They play another Russian duo, Ashmarin and Khakimov, for a place in the quarter-final.


Chloe Magee opens her campaign today (Friday) when she competes in the mixed doubles with brother Sam. They play Don and Voronko of Russia. Later in the women's singles, Magee takes on Marija Ulitina of Ukraine in a tough last 16 encounter.
