European Games Team Announcement
The Olympic Council of Ireland and the National Federations of Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Gymnastics and Taekwondo are today announcing athletes selected for the first ever European Games to be held in Baku from the 12th -28th June 2015. Over 6,000 athletes from the 50 National Olympic Committees of Europe will compete in 20 sports over 17 consecutive days at Baku 2015.The inaugural games will consist of 16 Olympic sports, and four non-Olympic sports.
Chef de Mission Dermot Henihan said "We are very pleased to announce the second group of athletes selected to represent Ireland in Baku 2015.
He added, "The final team now includes 63 athletes from 14 sports"
Mr. Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Committees and Olympic Council of Ireland President, said: "The Inaugural European Games in Baku is a great addition to the European and Irish Sports Calendar and a great opportunity for our athletes to compete against the best in Europe"
The Irish European Games cycling team will compete across four events in Baku which runs from 12th-28th of June. The Women's and Men's Time Trials are on the 18th of June with the road races on 20th-21st of June. Ireland has one slot in the Women's event where the same ride must do both Time Trial and Road Race and 5 slots in the Men's Race where the Time Trial rider must be one of the 5 in the Road Race.
