European Championships - Kazan
Chloe Magee, seeded at No 7, has been given a bye into the second round of the European Badminton Championships starting in Kazan, Russia, next Wednesday. Also in the top half of the draw are Fiorella-Marie Sadowski of Malta, Magee's likely opponent in the quarter final, and top seed Carolina Marin of Spain.
Magee pairs up with her brother Sam for the mixed doubles. They play Czech pair Jakub Bitman and Alzbeta Basova in their opener and if they beat them will face top seeds Nielsen and Pedersen of Denmark in the second round.
In the men's singles, Irish No 1 Scott Evans plays Ilija Pavlovic of Serbia in the first round. If he wins, he will then face No 4 seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.
Jonathan Dolan and Sam Magee have drawn Dutch pair and Jacco Arends and Jelle Maas, runners-up in the Carlton Irish Open last December, in the opening round of the men's doubles. In the women's doubles Caroline Black and Sinead Chambers, who made the quarter-finals of the Croatian Open last weekend, play England's Gabrielle Adcock and Lauren Smith.
