Equestrian - Lennon and Loughview Lou-Lou win CSIO five star Grand Prix in Gijon
Co Down’s Dermott Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse Loughview Lou-Lou galloped to victory in the CSIO five star Grand Prix, this evening in Gijon, Spain. This world class 6-day show, hosted its major class the €153,700 Grand Prix, unusually, this evening (Monday).
From a highly competitive international field of 45 competitors, 12 combinations presented in the jump off against the clock, only nine of which were carrying 0 faults.
Ireland's Cian O’Connor and the 10 year-old stallion Good Luck were another Irish combination to make it through to the jump off with a clear round, however, one fence down and a time of 56.60 seconds saw them finish in 7th place overall.
Lennon and Loughview Lou-Lou (ISH), were last to go and took full advantage of their pole position finishing with a foot perfect clear round in 55.07 seconds. The 14-year-old bay mare by Limmerick was bred by her owner Judith Sossick and this victory is another in a long list of outstanding performances by this Irish bred and produced mare.
Speaking after the win Lennon commented ‘I am delighted. Lou Lou has been jumping so well, she was getting ready for a big win and she deserves it.’
