Equestrian - Greg Broderick and MHS Going Global finish sixth in $2 Million Spruce Meadows Grand Prix
Ireland's Rio Olympic Show Jumping combination Greg Broderick and The Irish Sport Horse MHS Going Global, produced an excellent performance to take sixth place last night (Sunday) in one of the world's most prestigious Show Jumping competitions - the $2 Million CP International Grand Prix which is part of the Rolex Grand Slam, at Spruce Meadows in Canada.
Against a top class field of 40 of the world's leading horses and riders, Tipperary-born Broderick and Going Global knocked just a single fence in a demanding first round. The Irish pair kept all the fences intact when one of 12 combinations who advanced round two, picking up just a single time fault for a five fault total which saw them finish in sixth place overall, collecting a prize of $90,000. It was the third top 10 finish for Broderick and MHS Going Global at the Spruce Meadows fixture this week, where they knocked just one fence over six rounds of 1m60 five-star jumping.
The Canadian result was extra special for Broderick, as Going Global's joint owner Lee Kruger comes from Canada and was at Spruce Meadows to watch in person.
For the second year in-a-row, Britain's Scott Brash took the Spruce Meadows Grand Prix title, collecting a whopping $1 Million in what is one of the richest competitions on the world Show Jumping circuit. Brash and the mare Ursula produced one of just two double clear rounds and came out on top after a third round jump-off against America's McLain Ward and HH Azur.
