Doyle Best Of The Irish In Herning

13 Dec 2013

Fiona Doyle was the best of the Irish Swimmers on the second day of competition at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Denmark.

Doyle placed 18th overall in the heats of the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:26.33, outside her Irish Record of 2:24.64 set in January of this year. Only the top ten times progressed to the final. She will now look to her favoured 100m Breaststroke tomorrow.

Bethany Carson had a strong swim in the 100m Individual Medley today with a third place finish in heat 1 in a new lifetime best of 1:03.37.

"My pb yesterday was good, it was faster than Nationals last week so I'm happy with that seen as I haven't rested for this meet. The 100m IM today was fun, I haven't swam it in a long time so I was happy with the time I did". Commented Carson "I'm now looking forward to the 100m Butterfly tomorrow and 200m Freestyle on Saturday, they both went well at Irish Nationals but I know where improvements can be made and want to go faster for both."

Shani Stallard, also competing in the 100m Individual Medley, clocked a time of 1:05.07 to finish 8th in the same heat as Carson.

Brendan Hyland was 8th in his heat of the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 4.25.53; he will swim his main event tomorrow as he competes in the heats of the 200m Butterfly.

Barry Murphy and Andrew Meegan are both back in the pool tomorrow. Murphy will swim the 50m Breaststroke; an event in which he is ranked third while Andrew Meegan will compete in the 1500m Freestyle. The Aer Lingus man who trains at Swim Irelands NAC Performance Centre has already shown good form this year in the event with a new Irish Record of 15:11.69 set at Irish Nationals at the beginning of the month.
