Doyle 4th in Breaststroke Final at World University Games

Fiona Doyle has finished 4th in the Final of the 50m Breaststroke at the World University Games in Russia by just 100th of a second. Doyle swam a time of 31.40 and was beaten to Bronze, in the smallest possible margin, by Russia's Valentina Artemeva in 31.39.

Iulia Efimova, 100m and 200m Breaststroke Champion at the Games, was the Gold medal winner in a new World University Games Record of 30.31.

21 Year Old Doyle, who won a Silver medal and set a new Irish Senior Record in the 100m Breaststroke on Friday, will now travel back to Dublin in preparation for the FINA World Swimming Championships starting on the 28th July in Barcelona, she will swim the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke events at the Championships.

At the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Emma Reid touched in 2:26.83 to finish 8th overall in the 200m Butterfly final whilst Rachel Bethel placed 11th overall in the 100m Freestyle semi-final in 59.81.

Chris Bryan will take to the Open Water at the World University Games tomorrow for his first taste of International action this summer. Bryan, who trains at Swim Ireland's Performance Centre at the University of Limerick, will compete in the 10K race at Lake Middle Kaban in Kazan, with 29 swimmers on the start list. The Ennis man will then travel straight to Barcelona for the FINA 10K Open Water Swimming World Championships on the 22nd July.

Paralympics Ireland today announced their team to represent Ireland at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal, Canada from the 12th - 18th August. London 2012 Paralympic Gold medallists Bethany Firth and Darragh McDonald are both on the roster along with their fellow 2012 Paralympians Ellen Keane, Jonathan McGrath, James Scully and Laurence McGivern.
