Doyle 13th In Breaststroke Semi Final At European Championships

Ireland's Fiona Doyle has finished 13th overall in the 100m Breaststroke semi-final on the second day of competition at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin.

Doyle had qualified for this evening's semi-final in 10th place from this morning's heats in a time of 1:08.77, over a second off her personal best time of 1:07.66 which won her Silver at the World University Games in 2013. She bettered this morning's time in the semi-final to 1:08.49 but it was not enough to get her into tomorrow's final.

Visibly disappointed with the result afterward Doyle commented "I'm not sure what happened, I've been training really well all year and I'm definitely capable of going faster than that. I need to go and look at the video with my coach and see where I went wrong. I still have the 50m and 200m Breaststroke events to go this week so hopefully I can take something from this and use it to improve later in the week"

Denmark's Rikke Moeller Pedersen goes into tomorrow's 100m Breaststroke Final as the fastest qualifier having swam a time of 1:06.34.

Sycerika McMahon and Brendan Hyland return to the pool tomorrow for the heats of the 200m Individual Medley and 200m Butterfly respectively. McMahon will be eager to progress to the semi-final in the individual medley where she is currently ranked 14th while Hyland has been progressing steadily in the 200m Butterfly setting his latest Irish record at the national championships in April and will be looking to advance in his main event.

Following their lifetime best swims in the 100m Breaststroke on Monday Nicholas Quinn and Dan Sweeney will be confident as they look to repeat those performances when they return to the pool tomorrow for the 200m Breaststroke Heats.
