Double European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala Britton Added To European Marathon Cup Tea
Double European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) is set to compete in the European Marathon Cup at the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich. Britton has been added to the Irish team for the European Marathon Cup which takes place on the 16th of August.
The Marathon Cup is a team marathon competition run in conjunction with the European Championships Marathon with the results based on the national team's three fastest finishers.
There are a number of changes to the women's team with Nicola Duncan (Galway City Harriers AC) withdrawing due to injury and Maria McCambridge (Dundrum South Dublin AC) choosing not to compete in order to re-focus her training plans as she builds up to the marathon in Rio in 2016.
Barbara Sanchez (Clonliffe Harriers AC) will take her spot on the team with Sarah Mulligan (Dundrum South Dublin AC) another addition to the team. The Irish team will be bolstered by the fact Britton is taking part as she makes her debut in the marathon. Britton will contest the 10,000m final on the 12th of August and then turn her attentions to the marathon in order to strengthen the Irish team's chances at the event. It also offers Britton the ideal opportunity to run in a championships marathon on the lead up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
